GENERAL INFORMATION

The Ryfylke Museum is the local history museum for the entire Ryfylke region with landscapes ranging from the islands in the west to the fjords and mountains in the east. The Ryfylke Museum lets you experience glimpses into the daily life of Ryfylke’s people from about 1500 to the present day.

As you travel around Ryfylke you can visit farms of different ages still preserved in their original settings and once owned by different classes of people; the Lobster Museum and the Industrial Workers’ Museum, which each represent important regional trades; and the School Museum that along with the farms tells you about growing up in Ryfylke.

The museum also has a huge collection of photos and objects from the region. We work continuously to make our collections of photos and objects accessible on the website Digital Museum. Our folk music archive includes sound and video recordings from all of Rogaland County. Other important areas of work are building preservation, activities for children and young people, and cultural diversity.

We can offer a varied and exciting visit that includes exhibitions, guided tours, lectures, concerts and much more. Details about our activities can be found in our Activity Calendar for this year. More information is also available on Facebook and on our website ryfylkemuseet.no.

A hearty welcome to you all!
