Hjelmeland bygdemuseum is a rural museum which owns a wide-ranging collection of objects that are displayed according to theme.
THE SUMMER KITCHEN (“ELDHUSET”)
The summer kitchen displays numerous utensils and equipment used when cooking and preparing food.
THE SHOEMAKER’S SHOP (“SKOMAKERVERKSTADEN”)
There were many shoemakers in Hjelmeland and on this facility there can be found a recreation of a typical small shoemaker’s shop .
COTTAR’S COTTAGE
There were also a great many cottars in Hjelmeland. You may even meet one of them in this little cottage.
ARRIVING HERE
The museum is located in Vågå House, right next door to the public library.
From the ferry quay, drive towards Årdal and take a left turn in the roundabout.
